Winter Flowers & the Land of a Thousand Caves

Sunday, March 19th: Join Hiking the Holyland and expert guide Ben Zaltzman for a journey into the Land of a Thousand Caves!!! This will be the second in a monthly series covering “Telim”, the ancient sites of Israel hidden in nature.

On this 6.5 kilometer moderate hike we’ll explore Tel Maresha and Beit Guvrin, during wildflower season! We’ll hike into, and learn about large, ancient caves used for living, storage, and to make olive oil and wine. As we journey, we’ll find out about ancient agriculture and the people who once lived and farmed in this place.

The Tel Maresha/ Beit Guvrin Nature Reserve comes alive during the winter months in Israel, with lush greenery and wildflowers. Midway through our journey, we’ll stop for a coffee and tea break to enjoy the nature and peace. This is a moderately challenging trail, suitable for those who can hike on uneven terrain. Lace up your hiking boots, and come and join us!

Round trip transportation from Jerusalem available at an additional cost of 80 NIS. We realize that sometimes your plans change – you can cancel your registration up to one week before the hike.

Please note: There is an entrance fee to enter the National Park (not included as it varies by age) – or use your Matmon Card.

In case of inclement weather, the hike will be rescheduled to March 19th.  If this date does not work for you, you will receive a refund.

My name is Ben Zaltzman, I’m a tour guide and a hiker in Israel who leads people on trails around the country.
I fell in love with nature at a young age.
While exploring the wide open spaces of nature, I came to know that it was the place where I belong.
A question I ask during our journeys is, “What happens to me in nature?”
I found secret hiking trails, discovered magical corners in the country, and have been guiding others through my experiences.
The trips I lead are about nature connection, the power of being in nature, and the changing environment.
I’m an expert at long-distance hikes. I hiked for 6 month along the Pacific Crest Trail in the US, and have gone on lots of other journeys in Israel and abroad.
    Education:
Tour guiding course of the ministry of tourism, birdwatching course (Israeli SPN), educational tours (ministry of education), Storytelling, hunter-gatherers life skills, group dynamics leader, tour educator (on Birthright), Nature cure & connection journey.
