Purple Flowers at Sunset: Hike at Tel Socho

Monday, February 28th: See the most beautiful trail near Jerusalem at the perfect time of year and prettiest time of day!  Join Hiking the Holyland and expert guide Ben Zaltzman for an into sunset hike at Tel Socho, also known as Givat HaTurmosim.  This hill becomes covered in a purple explosion of tall lupine flowers in late February.

On our 5 kilometer, circular hike, we’ll be taking in the views around Socho overlooking the Elah Valley.  Socho was an important city in Biblical times, mentioned in Joshua, Samuel, and more.  The famous battle of David and Goliath happened right nearby.

As we approach sunset, we’ll reach Tel Socho and endless purple lupine flowers.  Bring your camera: you’ll want to take pictures of this beautiful place at the most magical time of day!  On top of the hill, we’ll enjoy a glass of wine or hot tea while we watch the sun setting over the Judean Hills from our perch amongst the lupines.

This is a moderate trail, but it does involve a steep ascent and descent at the beginning and end.  Wear hiking shoes and bring hiking poles, if you have them.  Round trip transportation available from Jerusalem for 80 NIS.  Contact us for special pricing for couples.

We reserve the right to cancel at any time for a full refund.

My name is Ben Zaltzman, I’m a tour guide and a hiker in Israel who leads people on trails around the country.
I fell in love with nature at a young age.
While exploring the wide open spaces of nature, I came to know that it was the place where I belong.
A question I ask during our journeys is, “What happens to me in nature?”
I found secret hiking trails, discovered magical corners in the country, and have been guiding others through my experiences.
The trips I lead are about nature connection, the power of being in nature, and the changing environment.
I’m an expert at long-distance hikes. I hiked for 6 month along the Pacific Crest Trail in the US, and have gone on lots of other journeys in Israel and abroad.
    Education:
Tour guiding course of the ministry of tourism, birdwatching course (Israeli SPN), educational tours (ministry of education), Storytelling, hunter-gatherers life skills, group dynamics leader, tour educator (on Birthright), Nature cure & connection journey.
