Israel Trail #32: Sha’ar HaGai
Sunday, May 4th: Join Hiking the Holyland and expert guide Ben Zaltzman for our 16 kilometer, 32nd segment of the Israel Trail through Sha’ar HaGai to Kedoshim Forest.
This is one trail that’s full of both history and beauty. After hot coffee and an intro, near Latrun we’ll make our way along the the trail through Neve Shalom Forest, a beautiful woodland in Judean Hills. Along the way, we’ll traverse the historic Burma Road, taking us to the Sha’ar Hagai Lookout, where we broke the siege on Jerusalem in ’48. We’ll stop for a lunch break with hot tea. Then, we’ll continue along the trail towards the magnificent Carmila Mountain and Kedoshim Forest, an area of natural beauty and great meaning, with tributes to the many Jews who were lost in the Holocaust. The last part of the trail takes us to Bnei Brit Cave, where we will celebrate the completion of the 32nd segment of the Israel Trail with wine and snacks!
This 16 kilometer trail is for fit hikers only. Minibus transportation available from Savidor Station for an extra fee of 110-140 NIS.

Ben Zaltzman
My name is Ben Zaltzman, I’m a tour guide and a hiker in Israel who leads people on trails around the country.
I fell in love with nature at a young age.
While exploring the wide open spaces of nature, I came to know that it was the place where I belong.
A question I ask during our journeys is, “What happens to me in nature?”
I found secret hiking trails, discovered magical corners in the country, and have been guiding others through my experiences.
The trips I lead are about nature connection, the power of being in nature, and the changing environment.
I’m an expert at long-distance hikes. I hiked for 6 month along the Pacific Crest Trail in the US, and have gone on lots of other journeys in Israel and abroad.
Education:
