The South

Southern Israel can be subdivided into six natural sections. The Ashkelon and Ashdod area is a flat region that stretches from the Jerusalem Lowlands to the coast. Further South in the Beersheva Area, the terrain transitions from Yatir Forest to the deserts around Arad until reaching the Negev. On the Eastern side of Southern Israel, the Dead Sea Region includes Ein Gedi, Masada, and other popular hiking trails. The Northern Negev and Southern Negev make up most of the rest of Southern Israel. The Negev is home to Makhtesh Ramon and the Eilat Mountains.
