Israel Trail #35: Jerusalem Mountain Springs!
Sunday, September 28th: Join Hiking the Holyland and expert guide Ben Zaltzman for our 12.5 kilometer, 35th segment of the Israel Trail through from the freshwater spring at Ein Lavan through the Jerusalem Mountains countryside!
This trail is full of forested beauty in the Jerusalem foothills. After hot coffee, an intro, and a quick dip into Ein Lavan we’ll make our way along the the trail through a beautiful woodland peppered with freshwater springs. Along the way, we’ll breathe in the scent of ripening figs, see vineyards and olive groves, and walk along Nahal Refaim past ancient Battir (an important historical area from the time of the Great Revolt). We’ll stop for a lunch break, then peek in at Ein Kobi, a spring inside an ancient structure. After that, we’ll continue along the trail around Mount Refaim. We’ll end the day near Tzur Hadassah, where we will celebrate the completion of the 32nd segment of the Israel Trail with wine and snacks!
This 12.5 kilometer trail is for fit hikers only. Minibus transportation available from Savidor Station for an extra fee of 110-140 NIS.

Ben Zaltzman
My name is Ben Zaltzman, I’m a tour guide and a hiker in Israel who leads people on trails around the country.
I fell in love with nature at a young age.
While exploring the wide open spaces of nature, I came to know that it was the place where I belong.
A question I ask during our journeys is, “What happens to me in nature?”
I found secret hiking trails, discovered magical corners in the country, and have been guiding others through my experiences.
The trips I lead are about nature connection, the power of being in nature, and the changing environment.
I’m an expert at long-distance hikes. I hiked for 6 month along the Pacific Crest Trail in the US, and have gone on lots of other journeys in Israel and abroad.
