Sunset Hike Through History at Burgin and Itri

Wednesday, June 15th: Join Hiking the Holyland and expert hiking guide Ben Zaltzman on a sunset hike through history, at Burgin and Itri Ruins in Park Adulam.  Explore a well-preserved Biblical town in the midst of a beautiful nature reserve in the Jerusalem Lowlands.  We’ll take a peek at underground chambers, burial caves, ritual baths and more as we hear the tale of the two ancient towns.

Together, we’ll walk this moderate, 5.5 kilometer trail in the cooler hours of late afternoon.  We’ll hike from one site to the next through the pretty hills covered in golden grass and seasonal wildflowers.  During our time in Itri and Burgin, you’ll have a chance to crawl through underground tunnels from the Bar Kochva revolt (if you want to!). Towards the end of our hike, we’ll enjoy sunset from the lookout along with a glass of wine and some snacks.

Bring snacks, water, and a flashlight.  Wear good walking shoes and long pants.   This fascinating 4 hour adventure is going to be incredible. Round trip transportation from Jerusalem available for 100 NIS per person.

Space is limited, so register early. Contact us for special pricing for couples.

My name is Ben Zaltzman, I’m a tour guide and a hiker in Israel who leads people on trails around the country.
I fell in love with nature at a young age.
While exploring the wide open spaces of nature, I came to know that it was the place where I belong.
A question I ask during our journeys is, “What happens to me in nature?”
I found secret hiking trails, discovered magical corners in the country, and have been guiding others through my experiences.
The trips I lead are about nature connection, the power of being in nature, and the changing environment.
I’m an expert at long-distance hikes. I hiked for 6 month along the Pacific Crest Trail in the US, and have gone on lots of other journeys in Israel and abroad.
    Education:
Tour guiding course of the ministry of tourism, birdwatching course (Israeli SPN), educational tours (ministry of education), Storytelling, hunter-gatherers life skills, group dynamics leader, tour educator (on Birthright), Nature cure & connection journey.

  1. I would need transportation from Baka and back. How much more money for transportation and where do I pick up the bus and when?
