Jerusalem Mountains Adventure

Join Hiking the Holyland and expert hiking guide Ben Zaltzman on an adventure in the beautiful Jerusalem Mountains on Friday, May 7th.  This challenging 8 kilometer trail will take you on a unique journey through diverse Jerusalem Mountain terrain.  The trail begins near Nes Harim.  We’ll travel together past vineyards and freshwater springs to an ancient Crusader Fortress.  Much of our hike will take us through a cool (dry) riverbed, Nahal HaMeara, under a thick canopy of trees.  We’ll also make a stop at the Twins Cave where we’ll explore and see hundreds of bats nesting in the darkness.  The day will end near Moshav Zanoah where we will coordinate rides back to the trailhead.

Bring a flashlight, hiking boots, and lots of energy.  We will leave the trailhead at 8:30 AM.  This 5 hour adventure is going to be awesome.

Space is limited, so register early.  15 % discount on all hiking gear to our participants. Use code GEARMEUP at checkout.

My name is Ben Zaltzman, I’m a tour guide and a hiker in Israel who leads people on trails around the country.
I fell in love with nature at a young age.
While exploring the wide open spaces of nature, I came to know that it was the place where I belong.
A question I ask during our journeys is, “What happens to me in nature?”
I found secret hiking trails, discovered magical corners in the country, and have been guiding others through my experiences.
The trips I lead are about nature connection, the power of being in nature, and the changing environment.
I’m an expert at long-distance hikes. I hiked for 6 month along the Pacific Crest Trail in the US, and have gone on lots of other journeys in Israel and abroad.
    Education:
Tour guiding course of the ministry of tourism, birdwatching course (Israeli SPN), educational tours (ministry of education), Storytelling, hunter-gatherers life skills, group dynamics leader, tour educator (on Birthright), Nature cure & connection journey.

  1. Dear Susannah,
All the hike announcements, at least for people like me who don’t have cars, need to include travel instructions by public transport, and some estimate of travel time to reach trailhead. In my case, do not assume use of technology. Technophobes like me need narrative directions, which can be printed-out before leaving home. I don’t have Waze and don’t know what it is. Thanks in advance. Tuvia Lavit, in Jerusalem (Baka neighborhood)
