Israel Trail Day Three: Naftali Lookout to Dishon Stream

Sunday, April 24th: Our journey along the Israel Trail continues.  Join Hiking the Holyland and expert guide Ben Zaltzman on this incredible adventure! We’ll be beginning the day where we left off last time, at Naftali lookout.  After a hot cup of coffee, we will follow a downhill path into the valley towards Nahal Dishon, the main event on Day 3 of the Israel Trail.

Most of our day will be spent walking along beautiful, Nahal Dishon, a Galilee area stream that flows year-round.  Dishon is one of three streams that flows eastwards towards the Sea of Galilee.  The pace along this trail will be quite pleasant, as there are no serious uphills or downhills along Nahal Dishon.

Nahal Dishon is one of the largest streams in the Galilee.  It begins at Mount Meron and travels to Hula Valley, ultimately flowing into the Sea of Galilee.  Dishon is a designated nature reserve (no jeeps or 4×4’s here!) just for hikers.  It will be especially full after this year’s winter rains.  Bring a change of clothes for a mid-hike swimming break if you’d like!

Along the way, we will enjoy the birds and wildlife which are drawn to the stream.  We’ll also take a few pit stops in the shade for snacks, hot tea, lunch, and explanations of our surroundings.  One of our stops will be beneath the ruins of an ancient Jewish village, whose residents once erected flour mills along the stream.  The day will end with our traditional toast over a glass of red wine to a job well done.

Minibus transportation will be available from Savidor Station in Tel Aviv (at an extra cost of 100-130 per person, depending on the number of passengers).  Spaces are limited, so please sign up early.  This is an extremely popular hike!

We reserve the right to cancel at any time for a full refund. This 15 kilometer challenging hike is for hikers in good physical condition!

You can choose to book just one hike, or book three Israel Trail hikes at once (does not have to be in order) for a 10 % discount and a free Hiking the Holyland t-shirt!

My name is Ben Zaltzman, I’m a tour guide and a hiker in Israel who leads people on trails around the country.
I fell in love with nature at a young age.
While exploring the wide open spaces of nature, I came to know that it was the place where I belong.
A question I ask during our journeys is, “What happens to me in nature?”
I found secret hiking trails, discovered magical corners in the country, and have been guiding others through my experiences.
The trips I lead are about nature connection, the power of being in nature, and the changing environment.
I’m an expert at long-distance hikes. I hiked for 6 month along the Pacific Crest Trail in the US, and have gone on lots of other journeys in Israel and abroad.
