Flower Season Adventure at Pura Nature Reserve

Sunday, February 13th: Join us on a flower season adventure at the Pura Nature Reserve!

The Pura Valley Nature Reserve is known for its colorful displays during flower season.  It’s a favorite destination to spot red anemones in February time. On this 11.5 kilometer, moderate hike, we’ll be taking in the best of the season in one full-length trail.

I’ll be there along with expert guide Ben Zaltzman, who will lead us on our journey past two ancient towns (Tel Keshet and Tel Nagila), towards flowers and lush greenery, in this special part of Israel that comes to life in with the winter rains.  We will also see the Shikma stream.  Birds and other wildlife are attracted to this spot during this season.

February is the best time of year to visit this area on the edge of the desert, where red flowers blossom annually.  Midway through our adventure, we’ll stop for hot tea made from freshly picked herbs gathered on the trail.

This hike is in the Southern region of Israel, only about an hour from Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.  The trail is long, but mostly flat, and suitable for hikers of many skill levels.  Carpools and rides are available: you’ll receive a link to the ride sharing spreadsheet once you sign up.

It’s going to be a day full of history, adventure, and great natural beauty.  Come explore off the beaten track and see the best of the season in the South!!

My name is Ben Zaltzman, I’m a tour guide and a hiker in Israel who leads people on trails around the country.
I fell in love with nature at a young age.
While exploring the wide open spaces of nature, I came to know that it was the place where I belong.
A question I ask during our journeys is, “What happens to me in nature?”
I found secret hiking trails, discovered magical corners in the country, and have been guiding others through my experiences.
The trips I lead are about nature connection, the power of being in nature, and the changing environment.
I’m an expert at long-distance hikes. I hiked for 6 month along the Pacific Crest Trail in the US, and have gone on lots of other journeys in Israel and abroad.
    Education:
Tour guiding course of the ministry of tourism, birdwatching course (Israeli SPN), educational tours (ministry of education), Storytelling, hunter-gatherers life skills, group dynamics leader, tour educator (on Birthright), Nature cure & connection journey.

  1. Shalom, I live in Netanya. Before signing up can you provide more information about transport for the tiyul. Is there transport from Netanya or perhaps a central meeting place in Tel Aviv?

  2. Hi Natan!
If enough people need paid transport from Tel Aviv, I will happily arrange it. We would probably need about 15 passengers to make it a cost effective option for everyone. In the meantime, I’m hoping that enough people will be driving down that there will be rides available to whoever needs one.

  3. Hi,

Since this was such an amazingly tempting tiyul, and therefore sold out, any chance you’ll possibly organize another one for all of us who ‘missed the boat’ on one of the next few Sundays?

    1. Thanks Rivka Ester! I am trying to organize more flower season hikes for February and March…I hope we’re able to put one together that works for your schedule.
